SYNOPSIS
This is the fascinating story of adventures of the Ukrainian Cossacks in Europe, filled with authentic mysticism and modern sparkling humor. The historical background and characters turn the story into a flashy amusement-movie.
Everything starts with the unanswered love of the blacksmith Vakula to the beautiful Oksana. Shrew girl declares that she’ll marry the one who’ll bring her the English Queen’s shoes. How is that possible? One needs to sell the soul to the devil or get to the final round of the football championship. Vakula gathers the team of his friends and neighbors from Poland, takes the miraculous potion, cooked by his mother – sorceress, and leaves for Spain, France and England. Yet not without theatrics, he flies on the tamed devil! No one has ever seen such a time machine before!
In Spain, where the royal court speaks only pompous verses and the country is plagued by inquisition our heroes meet their fellow countryman (to be played by a leading Ukrainian or Polish football star), who is to be sold over to some other country. The star player reveals the secrets of football prowess and the Cossacks outplay the iron armoured knights, headed by a famous Spanish footballer , almost destroying the city in the process, because the knights are playing with cannon balls. The victory saves them from the Master Inquisitor and Vakula can ask the pair of shoes from the Spanish Queen, just in case.
The Devil carries the Cossacks to France, where the sly Cardinal Richelieu spins the intrigues while his guardsmen always lose to the musketeers trained by a famous French footballer. Vakula saves the Queen’s honor by bringing back the diamonds, that she rashly gave to the Duke of Buckingham. Cossacks win the match in the ballroom and the Queen gives the pair of shoes to Vakula. Once again – just in case.
The only thing left is England. But the tricky devil is trying to get rid of the Cossacks and transports them not into the time of Queen Elisabeth but the time of Queen Victoria where she has a famous English player as her football adviser. The Cossacks don’t lose their heads to the technical wonders and the investigation by Sherlock Holmes who is trying to solve the mystery of the magic potion. They play with the Englishmen in heavy rain on a field that looks more like a swimming pool. Nevertheless they manage to win and Vakula gets... the pair of rainy royal rubber shoes!
After he is back home Vakula presents three pairs of royal shoes to his beloved only to find out that Oksana wanted not the shoes but his real love.
